The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has told President Bola Tinubu that
releasing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will
make him a national hero.
To this end, factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze,
Okechukwu Isiguzoro, urged all Igbo groups to put an end to acrimonious actions
and offensive media wars against the Federal Government.
He stressed that “Igbo leaders need to rally together and
take the necessary steps towards resolving the current situation.”
According to Isiguzoro: “President Tinubu has the
opportunity to become a national hero by seizing this moment and releasing
Nnamdi Kanu. Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo people will forever be indebted to
him if he resists all pressures and demonstrates compassion and forgiveness. As
Nigerians, we should collectively forgive Nnamdi Kanu for his past actions and
work towards a united and prosperous nation.”
The Nigerian government arrested Kanu in June 2021 in Kenya
and was subjected to extraordinary rendition.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he was locked up by the
Department of State Services, DSS, while he continued his trial at the law
court.
Despite the courts discharging him, the Nigerian government
has refused to set him free.
