Aiyedatiwa must withdraw court cases before considering political solution – Ondo Assembly

The Ondo State House of Assembly has revealed it will explore a political solution in the ongoing impeachment proceedings against the embattled Deputy Governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

However, the Assembly disclosed that all court cases initiated by Aiyedatiwa with regard to the impeachment process must be withdrawn before a possible political solution can be pursued.

The move comes in light of the intervention by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The impeachment plan against Aiyedatiwa was temporarily suspended on Tuesday following a meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Olatunji Oshati, it was explained that the possibility of a political solution would be ratified after consultations with members of the Assembly representing various political parties.

“The Hon. Speaker restated that the House was only exercising its responsibility under S.188 of the 1999 Constitution, having received a petition accusing the Deputy Governor of some allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

“The House, therefore, hopes that in the same spirit of genuine wish for a political solution, the Deputy-Governor would take immediate steps to withdraw the multiple court cases he filed over the same impeachment.

“This would allow the stakeholders to freely discuss the settlement proposals and prevent actions or comments over a matter that is still subjudice.”

Over the past few weeks, there has been a heated impeachment process against Aiyedatiwa, with 14 allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office brought against him by the Assembly.
