President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja, the nation’s
capital, on Sunday to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2023,
which will be held in New York, United States of America.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,
Ajuri Ngelale, who confirmed this on Friday, said that the President, besides
the main event of the UNGA, will be meeting with key economic stakeholders
around the world.
“Aside from the engagements he’s going to be having at the
General Assembly, aside from the act of participation that the Nigerian
delegation will be engaging in at the Assembly, there are a series of very
important side activities that will have wide-ranging ramifications on the
Nigerian economy.
“Following Mr President’s successful trip to New Delhi for
the G-20 Summit, and the staggering amount of investment he has been able to
attract to Nigeria in a very short period of time, he is going to continue
advancing very aggressively on his economic development and diplomatic drive to
attract foreign direct investment into the country,” Ngelale said.
He affirmed that the President will be having meetings with
major chief executives and leaders of multinational firms, including Brad
Smith, the President of Microsoft Company Worldwide; Sir Nick Clegg, the
President of Global Affairs for Meta Technologies; and the CEOs of General
Electric and Exxon Mobil.
According to him, the president’s engagements will include
bilateral meetings on the sidelines with the presidents of the United States,
Comoros, South Africa, and the European Union Commission.
Tinubu will also be meeting with the prime ministers of
Spain and the Netherlands, the King of Jordan, and the presidents of Algeria
and Brazil.
“It’s still dynamic. There are some that will still be
added, but it’s fair to say that within a very short few days in New York, His
Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will certainly be one of the most active
and one of the most sought-after heads of state with respect to his engagement
in both bilateral and multilateral platforms,” Ngelale stated.
