Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, has invited the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to join in the ongoing investigation into the death of Mohbad
The fast-rising singer, 27, died
on September 12 and was buried the next day.
The circumstance surrounding his
death has continued to stir up controversies on social media.
On Monday, the Lagos state police command inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the death of the singer.
Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos commissioner
of police, also vowed to use all legal means to fish out everyone indicted in
the case.
Speaking on the investigation,
Sanwo-Olu also invited the DSS to “widen the dragnet with inter-agency
collaboration and use of best-in-class technology to unearth the truth”.
In a statement on Tuesday by
Gbenga Omotoso, the state’s commissioner for information, the state government
directed anyone with vital information on the singer’s death to assist the
investigating team.
Further to this and to boost the
investigation, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has invited the Department of State
Services (DSS) to join the investigation and widen the dragnet with
inter-agency collaboration and the use of best-in-class technology to unearth
the truth,” the statement reads.
“Consequently, the Department of
State Services (DSS) has also joined the investigation so as to get justice for
the youngster, his family and teeming fans. The Government pleads with all
those who may have vital information that may assist the investigation process
to avail the investigating team of such.
“The government also appeals to
the investigating team to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of all
witnesses who may come forward with vital information or indicative evidence
that may assist the process.
“Besides, the grieving family should be allowed to mourn their loss in peace. It is, indeed, a difficult time for us all – the government, the family and MohBad’s fans. Any action that can aggravate the grief should be avoided.
“The Police and the DSS have been
admonished to brief the public on their efforts periodically.”
The governor also appealed to friends and fans of the late singer to desist from making inflammatory utterances and reaching prejudicial conclusions on the issue.
