Kings bow down for me indoors, I prostrate for them openly – Obasanjo (VIDEO)

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that kings usually bow down for him indoors whenever he meets them.

Obasanjo noted that he usually prostrates for traditional rulers in public, but they bow down for him indoors.

The former president made these declarations on Friday, during the commissioning of the Iseyin campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso.

Obasanjo was invited by Governor Seyi Mankide of Oyo State as a special guest of honour for the commissioning of some projects in the state.

Our correspondent, however, reports that one of the memorable periods of the event was when Obasanjo compelled all the traditional rulers who were at the event to stand up and sit down again as a sign of respect.

It was gathered that majority of the traditional rulers from Oke-Ogun geo-political zone in the state were in attendance.

Obasanjo, while speaking, said that two things are given much respect in Yoruba land; age and position. He then told the traditional rulers that the governor’s position is superior to that of any king.

He said, “Please, please, all of you, the traditional rulers, I greet you, thank you for your presence. But, let me say something, anywhere there is a governor or president, the traditional rulers will have to stand up and greet the governor or president.

“Stand up….., sit down. In Yoruba land, we respect two things: age and position. The governor’s position is superior to that of any king. When I was president, I prostrated for kings openly. But indoors, the king would bow down for me. Let us respect our culture”.
