The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Wale
Adedayo, the suspended chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area.
Recall that Adedayo was detained on Friday after he accused
the Ogun State Governor of diverting statutory allocations meant for local
governments in the state.
On Sunday, a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, asked the DSS
to release Adedayo and requested Gov Abiodun sue him instead for libel if he
had been defamed.
Less than 15 hours after Falana’s reaction, the DSS released Adedayo.
Addressing newsmen shortly after his release, a beleaguered
Adedayo stated that he would challenge his suspension in court.
Asked about why he was detained, he said DSS claimed there
was “a letter from the governor that I was making inciting comments against the
state government.”
He said he had told the DSS that there was nothing like
that.
“They said that I was planning a protest, but I said I don’t
know anything about that, and I told them that I had only done what my
conscience said I should, and this I did with my other colleague chairmen
despite the fact that they all ran back. My conscience is very clear in the
letter I wrote to Chief Olusegun Osoba,” he said.
