The Central Bank of Nigeria has postponed its
earlier-scheduled 293rd Monetary Policy Meeting amid an ongoing probe.
Isa AbdulMumin, Director of Corporate Communications at CBN,
disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Recall that the apex had scheduled to hold its 293rd MPC
meeting on 25th and 26th September 2023.
However, in a twist of events, the bank announced that the
meeting would no longer hold.
The CBN informed that a new date would be communicated to
stakeholders and the public.
“CBN Defers September 2023 MPC meeting The Monetary Policy
Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has deferred its 293rd
meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2023,
respectively.
“A new date will be communicated in due course. We regret
any inconvenience this change may cause our stakeholders and the general
public”.
The development is coming amid a CBN probe under its former
Governor Godwin Emefiele.
DAILY POST learnt that after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
appointed Olayemi Casdroso as CBN Governor, Emefiele tendered his resignation
while still in the Department of State Security Service’s detention.
On June 9, Tinubu suspended Emefiele as CBN governor.
CBN’s last MPC meeting was on July 24th and 25th,
respectively, when the Monetary Policy rate increased to 18.75 per cent.
