Nationwide protest: Your palliative measures deceptive – Kano NLC blasts Tinubu

The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said the Federal Government’s [palliative measure to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy is deceptive.

The chapter, which joined the national body’s nationwide protest, lamented that just two months into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, he had declared war o the masses with his unpopular policies.

Kabiru Inuwa, Chairman of the NLC in Kano said the union is not a political party and would never play politics with the lives of Nigerians. He expressed shock that the government had planned to stop the protest through a court order, saying it showed unfriendliness to Nigerians.

He complained that the committees set up by the government to address issues on fuel subsidy removal, wages and other matters never sat, bemoaning Tinubu’s nationwide address after they threatened a strike.

“Tinubu should let the masses breathe. Palliative he promised should be quickly shared and also started implementing policies and programs he want to do,” he said.

Responding, the protesters chanted that they did not want the palliative, demanding the restoration of the fuel subsidy regime.

The State Secretary to the Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, earlier created a scene by blocking the protesting NLC members halfway to Government House but the protesters shouted at him, rejecting his moves to address them midway to the Government House.

Speaking at the Government House roundabout, Bichi promised to submit the request of the NLC to the State Governor for onward transmission to the Federal Government.
