UEFA announces punishment for Man Utd, Barcelona over FFP breaches

UEFA has fined both Manchester United and Barcelona over breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The punishments were announced in a statement from the governing body on Friday.

United will pay a €300,000 fine for “minor break-even deficits” for the financial years from 2019 to 2022.

Barca were, however, handed a €500,000 fine “for wrongly reporting, in the financial year 2022, profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers), which are not a relevant income under the regulations.”

UEFA introduced FFP in 2009 in a bid to stop clubs from spending more than they earn and risking their long-term financial health as a result.

Last September, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and PSG were all handed stricter financial targets for last season.

They will continue to be monitored for compliance over the next year.
