Tinubu reappoints Alkali-led NEDC board rejected by Buhari

President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Mohammed Alkali as the managing director of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).

Alkali, pioneer managing director of the commission, was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari did not renew the appointment of Alkali before leaving office.

Sadiya Umar, former minister of humanitarian affairs, had reportedly wanted Abu Hashidu as MD.

In May, Shehu Garba, a former presidential spokesperson, said Buhari ordered the Hashidu board to commence duties without senate confirmation.

In a letter read by Godswill Akpabio, president of the senate, on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday, Tinubu requested that Alkali be screened for another term of four years.

The president based his request on section 5(b) of the North-East Development Commission establishment act of 2017.

Here is the list of other nominees of the board:

  • Paul Tarfa (chairman)
  • Gambo Maikomo
  • Abdullahi Abbas
  • Tsav Steven Aondoana
  • Mutiu Lawal Are
  • Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo
  • Frank Achinike Owhor
  • Musa Yashi
  • Ahmed Abdulsalam Yahaya
  • Abubakar Garba Iliya
