The President, Bola Tinubu, has written to the House of
Representatives seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation
Act.
The amendment, he said, was to allow the Federal Government
to source N500 billion for palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy
removal.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas,
read the president’s letter during plenary on Wednesday.
The letter was titled: “Request for the amendment of the
2022 appropriation act”.
Tinubu said the money would be sourced from the 2022
supplementary Appropriation Act of N819.5 billion.
“I write to request
the approval of the House of Representatives for an amendment of the 2022
appropriation act in accordance with the law.
“The request has become necessary in other to source for
funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the recent
removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
“The sum of N500 billion only has been extracted from the
2022 appropriation act of N819.536 for the provision of palliatives to
Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. I expect that the
House will speedily consider the request,” the letter read.
The speaker said the lawmakers would consider Tinubu’s
request at plenary on Thursday.

I don't want to hear anything pallaiatives bcs only few will enrich themselves. Spend all d savings from subsidy on refineries to make sure they work so that fuel price will come down. Otherwise be ready to hand over to any candidate that will promise to bring back subsidy. Baba tonubu even the rich are suffering while the poor are dying
ReplyDeleteWhen you elect persons who have no economic knowledge of the country, this is what you get. Removal of subsidy was not contained in the inaugural address of Bola Tinubu but out of sheer wickedness and inordinate quest to rule nigeria he made a very dangerous statement for a start. Today, he is writing and asking for 500b for palliatives. This is putting the cart before the horse. Misguided principle. Those who lauded his move, do you see where it has landed us. For Tinubu, we have started on a wrong footing. I wonder if we can get it right.
ReplyDeleteIt must be pointed out that we are not making progress at all. At the time Northerners were busy killing their folks and labeling Jonathan weak, Buhari became an option. Not as if killing stopped during Buhari but he came and amplified corruption to the high heavens, now Tinubu has come to mess the nation up the more. We cannot get it right with these mentally imbalanced guys. Enough of them please!
All the presidential candidates promised to remove subsidy. The only difference would be on after subsidy removal what next?. Who among the past presidents knows anything about economics of the country? None, besides it's not necessary. What is necessary is getting the right people with expertise and experience to help the president work. Now the igbos are killing themselves in the name of sit at home. Are they any different from the northerners. Until we begin to see ourselves as Nigerians not haus, igbo or yorubas, we are not going anywhere.
