President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday ordered the immediate
review of the proposed N8,000 to 12 million households in Nigeria for six
months to cushion the effect of the petrol subsidy removal.
In a statement issued by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the
President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Tinubu also ordered
that the whole range of the palliative package of the federal government be
unveiled to Nigerians.
“That the N8,000 conditional cash transfer programme
envisaged to bring succour to most vulnerable households be reviewed immediately.
“This is in deference to the views expressed by Nigerians
against it,” the statement reads in part.
Tinubu had, in a request to the National Assembly, pointed
out the intention to cater for the welfare of poor and weak households in the
country under the National Safety Net Programme of the Federal Government.
Tinubu insisted that the N8,000 would be transferred
monthly, digitally, to the accounts of 12m vulnerable and low-income
households.
