Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has left its customers
frustrated and helpless as a result of an inability to access the mobile app
‘GTWorld’.
The development comes against the background of an update
which was expected to improve the app’s features but instead led to login
issues for customers.
The bank had, on Tuesday, informed its customers via text
and email messages that its app would be automatically updated to the new
version on July 12.
“On the 12 July, we will release the new and updated version
of the GTWorld Mobile Banking App to Play Store and App Store. This means that
when you launch the GTWorld Mobile Banking App, you will see a newly designed
interface if you have App Updates set on automatic,” the notice reads.
“However, if App
Update is not set to automatic on your mobile device, you will need to manually
update your GTWorld Mobile App to experience the newly designed app. Please
note that we will discontinue support of the current version of the GTWorld App
on 12 August.”
TheCable observed that following the update, many customers
have not been able to log into the updated mobile app.
Numerous users have complained of being locked out of their
accounts for a period of 24 hours after multiple unsuccessful attempts to log
in.
Below are some of the reactions from Twitter.
GTCO upgraded their app, shut everyone out of the new version 🤷, are we to beg you to give us access to our money? #Gtworld #Upgrade👎🏼

Innalillah. I was here laughing at those who had rushed to update their @gtbank app, only to find out that mine had updated automatically. It's gonna be a long weekend. 😂

If you're having issues logging in on your GTBank app, kindly wait till Monday and go to the nearest bank and complain. Don't log in your details on any online site, someone just got duped of N430,000 just now. Scammers are using the avenue to operate.

GTBank’s new app upgrade be like person wey get money dey find trouble. (Sorry. I wrote that in Yoruba). Why roll out a new app that it’s impossible to even log in to?.

Shameful for a bank I’ve considered quite reliable over time - compared with other Nigerian banks.
No way I’ll continue using @gtbank after the punishment and suffering their app has caused me. No way!

GTBank makes it absolutely necessary to have a second bank app. Otherwise, you're screwed. How else can you explain the total mess a simple update has become? You disturbed us for days with the promise of an ungrade only to be unable to log into the app after the upgrade. #Sigh!

I’m yet to see just one person who has successfully logged into the new app.

I’ve typed my phone number and you’re not sending the OTP, next response I get is I should try again after 24hours…
So my life should stand still for what you guys can’t fix?
GTbank choosing to force an update to their app, and now I cannot log in.

This might be the last straw. I’m going to change my primary bank on Monday.
Ah! Let me stop resending OTP o before I get suspended like you. I didn’t mean it that way o. 🤭

Responding to the plight of customers, GTBank asked them to
use the internet banking or the USSD platform to initiate transactions.
“Thank you for talking to us. We sincerely apologize for the
inconvenience this may have caused you,” a message from the bank reads.
“Please be informed that we are aware of the downtime, and
this is receiving attention and resolution is ongoing.
“Please bear with us as the updated platforms will be up and running in no time.”
