Fuel subsidy removal: Tinubu given 14 days ultimatum to publish details of savings

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu over the fuel subsidy removal.

SERAP said Tinubu should publish the spending details of fuel subsidy within the next four weeks.

The body vowed to initiate a legal action against Tinubu if he fails to publish the details within four weeks.

Tweeting on Sunday, SERAP wrote: “BREAKING: Subsidy removal: We’ve urged President Tinubu to widely publish spending details of the N400 billion saved in four weeks from the removal of subsidy on petrol, or face legal action.”

Tinubu had declared an end to fuel subsidy regime during his inauguration on May 29.

He had vowed to ensure that money spent on fuel subsidy was directed to infrastructures in the areas of education, health, and others.

  1. It's publishing details that's important now or the implement of subsidy palliatives?

  2. No palliatives is important bcs only few will enrich themselves. Let him put all the money in making refineries work. A dime should not be spent on palliatves bcs it will have no value. Tell me of he buy buses in cities what about those living in villages, besides with our non challant attitudes give buses two years they will become scrubs. Even if all Nigerian budget will be given to govs they will not increase the workers salary bcs they are too greedy. Tell me what about those that are not working? Are they not Nigerians. Is inflation not affecting them?. No nation development without subsidy in energy sector for productivity. Now that he succeeded in removing it let him scrutinise through a committee composing of selected experienced

  3. Let him constitute a committee of respected, experienced Nigerians to come up with a close to real figures of the claimed subsidy so that he can use the tax payers money to provide at least half of the subsidy while our refineries are receiving the necessary attention. By the time they become fully operational then it can totally be withdrawn. Otherwise Nigerians are suffering and palliatives can cushion the effects. I repeat disband the palliative committee please our president.
