Popular Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has chided the Obidient Movement, supporters of Peter Obi of the Labour Party, over their role in the recently concluded 2023 general election.
Politics Nigeria reports Wole Soyinka, speaking at the launch of his book, “The Putin Files: Excursions Around The Ideology Of Pain”, on Friday, maintained that the Obidients were fascist.
Responding to a lawyer and poet Ogaga Ifowodo’s question about why he called Obidients fascists, he used the 2020 EndSARS protest as an example of a struggle driven by pure truth.
According to him, EndSARS is one of the most successful movements in this country.
Soyinka noted that he supported the EndSARS protest and even addressed some protesters when leaving Lagos for Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Comparing the EndSARS protest with the Obidient Movement, Soyinka pointed out that what the Obidients were trying to do was “the mobilization of youth to defend an untruth”.
Soyinka likened most actions of the Obidient Movement to former president Muhammadu Buhari, “pushing people to kill innocent serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by claiming he was cheated out of an election”.
He said long before the election; some people had schemed to tilt the country towards having an interim government.
“So some of those who thought they were being radical, they were being ‘mumu’ (foolish) and “playing the script of others,” Soyinka declared.
Recall that Obidients criticized Soyinka in May after describing them as fascists.

Soyinka, why not respect your person and stop bringing yourself so low for the youths to be disrespectful about you.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need such statement,, You are the father of all....
ReplyDeleteAfter gaining much respect, you are now losing it just because of inability to speak the truth.

Soyinka has simply lost relevance and importance both in Nigeria and in the world.
ReplyDeleteThere are people we tend to respect but when you hear their reasoning sometimes, it does not in any way connect with what people know them for. Prof Wole Soyinka is a confused person when it comes to issues of Nigeria. The way he analysis issues will even prove me very evident in concluding that Wole Soyinka is simply a prof of confusion who has no idea of issues he discusses but bcos of his literary giantess seemingly, people tend to think he is full of wisdom whereas a child could reason better than he has ever done.If you don't like what the followers of Peter Obi are doing but in love with what those of BAT are doing, keep your mouth shut. I still ask what people like you have contributed to the country except for writing books of confusion. Respect yourself for whatever you think of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI am yet to come to terms with any contributions made by this professor ever since we were small and hearing the name Wole Soyinka. As we grew up we came to realise that the said Prof knows nothing but continuous delusion of himself with confusion. You cannot focus on your literary calling, your suggestion ever hearing your name has been one sided. You have never bared your mind on the presidential election robbery simply because your brother committed the crime hence its fine for the country. You put yourself up as if you are not one of the problems whereas you are by not condemning evil and now it is Obidients you want to use to express your stupid grammatical confusion, Thunder fire you idiot professor. You guys have caused us enough problems in this country. Professor of untruth, injustice, ethnic professor and religion bigot. Much as you do not see anything good in what we do as Igbo people, progress for the nation will remain a pipe dream till the right thing is done. Wole Soyinka, Professor, dedicate your time and energy on writing those useless books but leave the followers of peter Obi alone. It is not only LP that contested election nor the only party challenging the outcome in court. Mind yourself and watch your utterances.
