A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun
Showunmi, was on Monday beaten by thugs, suspected to be loyalists of the All Progressives
Congress (APC).
Showunmi was approaching the entrance of the Isabo court
premises, venue of the Ogun State election petition tribunal when he was
ambushed by the thugs.
The PDP governorship aspirant was flogged with canes and
physically assaulted, nearly falling into a ditch.
The party chieftain while trying to escape from his
attackers was pursued with canes and stones.
Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident
reports that operatives of the police, the Amotekun Corps and others appeared
to be unconcerned while the politician was being assaulted.
He was later whisked away by some men, leaving his car
behind.
