Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has ordered the state’s
accountant-general to stop the salaries of 10,800 workers believed to be
employed by the previous administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.
Abdulkadir Abdusalam, the Kano state accountant-general,
announced the development while addressing journalists on Monday.
He said the governor has issued a directive for an
investigation to establish the authenticity of the workers’ engagement and
procedures to remove those illegally recruited.
Abdusalam said the affected workers can continue working in their various posts until the investigation is concluded.
Last year, the Kano chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party
(NNPP) described the recruitment exercise of the Ganduje-led administration as
suspicious while accusing the government of collapsing the civil service in the
state.
Since Yusuf took the oath of office on May 29, he has been
rolling back some of the policies of his immediate predecessor.
Last week, he ordered an investigation into “inappropriate
deductions” from the salaries of civil servants and revenues of state hospitals
by some firms.
The governor has also embarked on the demolition of
structures erected by Ganduje.
Yusuf also revoked the sale of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric
Hospital, allegedly sold by the previous administration.

No evil done by man will go unpunished, if not by his fellow man, then by God, for the triumph of evil over good is but temporary. When Ganduje was applying power inappropriately, nobody advised him to know that power is transient. When he was boycotting every narrow road of due process, he saw himself as a pharaoh that must pursue the Israelites beyond the sea. Those of you he employed in with his personal aggrandizement without any iota of regard to due process, you will reap what you sow. Nothing last forever.
