Ex-IGP Baba breaks silence on his removal from office by Tinubu

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba has broken his silence on removal from office by President Bola Tinubu.

He was forcefully retired from office by the president on Monday, in a tsunami that also affected all Service Chiefs.

Handing over to the acting IGP, Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday, in Abuja, Baba said said he was happy that he is handing over to somebody he knew would carry the mantle of leadership from where he have stopped.

Baba said the position of the IGP is like a stage where one comes, does his job and leave the stage for others.

On his successor, he said he and Egbetokun grew up in the job and grew up together, saying he was his boss at a time or even when he was the IGP.

According to him, Egbetokun worked under him twice, adding that they have been working together and that he knew how he could go ahead to champion the course of the police from where he stopped.

Born on 1 March 1963, Baba was supposed to have retired from the Police Force on 1 March, 2023, but his tenure was extended by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He was appointed by IGP by Buhari to replace Mohammed Adamu who retired from Nigeria Police Force in February 2021.

The Police Council had on Friday, June 4, 2021, confirmed the appointment of Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police.
