Salihu Lukman, vice-chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in the north-west, says his suit against Abdullahi Adamu,
national chairman, is to prevent a “looming anarchy” in the management of the
party.
In a letter dated May 2 and addressed to Adamu, Lukman said
he did not violate any provision of the party’s constitution by instituting a
suit against the chairman and Iyiola Omisore, APC national secretary.
The vice-chairman is asking the federal high court in Abuja
to compel Adamu and Omisore to provide the party’s financial report at a
national executive committee (NEC) meeting.
However, Ahmad El-Marzuq, the APC national legal adviser, recommended Lukman’s expulsion for suing Adamu and Omisore, arguing that the vice-chairman did not exhaust the party’s internal mechanism to resolve the issue before heading to court.
Lukman in his letter, said Adamu must not be seen as “too
powerful to be governed or controlled by the party constitution”.
“[The suit] instituted primarily to arrest the looming
danger of anarchy in the management of our party, which is actively being promoted
by the national legal adviser for which he has the effrontery to recommend
that,” the letter reads.
“Your Excellency, the National Legal Adviser and all those
involved in the effort to subvert the constitution of the party may wish to
convert all the party resources to fund appearances in court to defend the
indefensible.
“Those of us who
stand for justice, even as orphans, will always find partners and allies among
senior members of the Bar who will provide pro-bono services in defense of
democracy.
“I am confident that our founding leaders led by President
Muhammadu Buhari and president-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will bring their
moral authority to serve as a check to restore constitutional order in the
APC.”
