Kano is among states swearing in new governors today across
the country.
Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party
(NNPP), defeated Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the
guber poll.
Yusuf received the support of Rabiu Kwankwaso, former
governor of Kano state and presidential candidate of the NNPP, during the election.
He won the guber poll with 1,019,602 votes, while Gawuna got
890,705 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC).
The new governor first contested against Abdullahi Ganduje,
the immediate past governor in 2019, in what was regarded as a very
controversial election which went into supplementary polls.
Ganduje, who was seeking re-election at the time, eventually won after the supplementary vote.
