The outgoing governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has claimed that a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, is the next president of the senate.
Ganduje spoke on Thursday during a meeting with his Cross River counterpart, Ben Ayade, in Calabar, the state capital.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, was also present at the meeting.
Ganduje claimed that the decision to nominate Akpabio was already a done deal but he did not explain if it was a decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership.
However, according to him, “we have resolved that”.
“The senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will come from the south-south and it is no other person than the former governor of Akwa Ibom.
“I am giving you assurance, we are waiting for the D-Day that he will be the senate president of Nigeria.”
The Upper Chamber will decide the next Senate President following the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29.
