President-elect Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, met with Muktar
Betara, a member of the house of representatives from Borno.
The meeting was held at the residence of the president-elect
in Abuja.
Although the details of the discussion have not been made
public, the meeting is not unrelated to the speakership bid of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker.
Ahmad Lawan, senate president; Kayode Fayemi; former
governor of Ekiti; and Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, were among those present
at Tinubu’s residence at the time the meeting took place.
Betara, who represents Biu/Kwaya Kusar/Shani/Bayo federal
constituency of Borno, chairs the appropriation committee of the house of
representatives.
He is one of the top contenders seeking to succeed Femi
Gbajabiamila as speaker.
Recall that days ago, some reps-elect and former lawmakers
declared support for the speakership bid of the lawmaker.
Betara was re-elected during the February 25 election and
will be serving his fifth term when the 10th assembly is inaugurated in June.
Other APC lawmakers in the speakership race include Idris
Wase (Plateau), Yusuf Gagdi (Plateau), Sada Soli (Katsina), Tajudeen Abbas
(Kaduna), Aminu Jaji (Zamfara), Ben Kalu (Abia), and Miriam Onuoha (Imo).
