Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, has said that
President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t confer any advantage on the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC) during the February 25 Presidential election.
Mohammed stated this to State House correspondents after the
Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.
He made clarifications of his comments during a recent
official trip to the United States.
Mohammed said, “I went to the US to balance the skewed
report about the just concluded elections, and everywhere I went, I said very
unambiguously that the last general elections in Nigeria are the most
transparent.
“It was the freest and the most authentic Nigeria had ever
held and that’s despite the effort of the opposition to delegitimize the
election.
“The first instance was that the president didn’t confer any
advantage on his ruling party [APC] and that is why as far as he was concerned,
he would rather lose the election than win at all cost and the result showed
it.”
Recall that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, won
the election after defeating PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Mr
Peter Obi.
