Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has recounted
his struggles with getting fans to accept his albums.
He said he was elated by the positive reception being given
to his latest album ‘Timeless’ after 12 years on stage.
Davido spoke in the recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast
hosted by Adesope Olajide.
He said, “I’m happy that people accepted ‘Timeless’. They
have always doubted my albums. It’s a different feeling for me because people
have never accepted my album and they accepted this one. This is a fresh
feeling for me; after my 12 years of killing sh*t!”
“I haven’t felt this much love before. It’s crazy bro,” the
DMW boss added.
Davido’s fourth studio album ‘Timeless’ has been breaking
streaming records since its release.
The 17-track album broke the record as the first African
album to reach Number 1 on the US iTunes chart.
It is also the highest charting album by an African artist
on the US Apple Music (peaked at Number 2) and the biggest album first-day
stream in the history of Audiomack.
Davido’s 2012 debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’, 2019 sophomore
album ‘A Good Time, and his 2020 third studio album ‘A Better Time’ were all
tagged “flops” by critics.
The singer was accused of stat padding by including “old
singles” in his albums, especially on the 2019 album ‘A Good Time’ which
contained ‘If’ and ‘Fall’ which were released two years earlier.
