Afam Ogene, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has won
the Ogbaru federal constituency supplementary election in Anambra.
The previous election held on February 25 in the
constituency was declared inconclusive because of infractions and cases of
violence.
On Sunday, Ogene was declared winner by the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With his victory, Ogene unseated Chukwuma Onyema of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a three-term
incumbent house of representatives member.
The LP, PDP, and APGA candidates all gathered over 10,000
votes. However, Ogene of LP has been declared winner with a leading margin of
232 votes.
Kingsley Ubaorji, INEC’s Returning Officer, said Ogene
polled 10,851 votes to defeat Onyema who polled 10,619 votes.
He added that Arinze Awogu of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA) polled 10,155 votes as the second runner-up.
“Afam Ogene of the
Labour Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the
highest number of votes cast, is declared winner of the election,’’ Ubaorji
said.
