Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has commended Governor
Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for playing a role in ensuring that power shifts to
the south.
Wike, who spoke during the commissioning of projects by the
Oyo State Government, in Ibadan, the State capital, said those who play a role
in fighting for change, may not be direct beneficiaries of the struggle.
Governor Wike insisted that the issue of power shift must
not be written in the constitution for it to be adhered to.
“I’m happy he is one of those that have made history by
making sure power shifts to the south.
“I have told people that those who fight for change, those
who fight for revolution may not be direct beneficiaries of that fight.
“But today history has it now that all of us now are aware
that when power finishes from the South, it will go to the North, when it
finishes from the North, it will come to the South. So, it does not need to be
written in the constitution before it is implemented.
“And I thank Nigerians for standing firm to see that this
materializes.” He said.
Wike also asked the Federal Government to pay the Oyo State
Government all the funds that were used for the construction of projects meant
to be carried out by the FG.
He said if the FG cannot refund the monies spent for the
projects, then the airport should be handed over to the Oyo State Government.
On the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, extending the
dealing of the phasing out of the old N200, N500 and 1,000 notes, Wike
commended the apex bank court, saying the Central Bank of Nigeria has no choice
but to obey.
