The Lagos state police command says it will investigate the
death of Kambilichukwu, the first son of Yul Edochie, and May, his first wife.
On Thursday morning, the internet was inundated with reports
that Kambilichukwu is dead.
He was said to have developed a seizure while playing
football with his colleagues in school.
Kambilichukwu was rushed to Mother and Child hospital in
Lagos, where he was confirmed dead.
When contacted, a very close associate of the family
confirmed that the teenager slumped and died while playing football.
“He told me about what happened, he said my first son is
gone, slumped while playing football in school. Got to the hospital, and he was
gone,” the source said.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, in a chat
with BBC, that there is an ongoing investigation to unravel the cause of
Kambilichukwu’s demise.
Hundeyin said Yul reported the incident at a police station
close to him.
The spokesperson added that there is also a need to conduct
an autopsy to know the cause of his death.
“He has just reported the case and we have started our
investigation,” Hundeyin said.
“By tomorrow, it will be entered into the criminal
investigation department. We will investigate what led to the boy’s death.
“There’s a need to
carry out an autopsy to know what really happened. We can’t really say what
happened until the autopsy is done but the incident happened at his school.”
Kambilichukwu’s death comes about two months after Yul
celebrated his 16th birthday.
“A very happy 16th birthday to my first son, Kambilichukwu
Leo Yul-Edochie. May God lead and protect you always. With many more years.
Daddy loves you,” the actor wrote on Instagram.
Yul and May got married in 2004, after dating for six years.
Following Kambilichukwu’s demise, the couple’s children are
now three — Dani, Karl, and Victory.
