PHOTOS: Protesters in Abuja seek resignation of INEC chairman

A group known as the National Youth League for the Defence of Democracy (NYLDD) has called for the resignation of Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group said Yakubu should be arrested over the violence and alleged malpractices that marred the general election in some parts of the country.

Speaking with reporters at the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Thursday, Moses Paul, leader of the group, said the elections were a sham.

“People were burnt in Kano, people were shot in Rivers, we have seen the greatest inhumanity happened in Lagos state in the course of this election,” Paul said.

Speaking also, Anngu Orngu, co-convener of the group, said letters have been submitted to the US, UK, and French embassies, asking them to impose a visa ban on the INEC chairman.

“We are here as frustrated Nigerians and the fundamental rights of Nigerians have been trampled upon by Mahmood Yakubu-led INEC and we are here calling for his immediate resignation,” Orngu said.

“We have been to the US Embassy, we have been to the British Council in Nigeria, and we have also submitted a letter to the French embassy, calling on them to advise the Nigerian government that the Nigerian people are not happy.

“We, the young people of this country are not happy over what is happening in our country.”

  1. Shut up, foolish pdp criminals, because the technology was hard for you to cheat as usual. Kindly answer this question. Who cheated for who? Can't you see and accept defeat for once? Sitting governors are losing to opposition, party chairmen etc all losing.
As for the thugs that shut and killed by the army. I think it serve them right.
