Seyi Makinde has secured an early lead in the Oyo state
governorship election.
The incumbent governor is hoping to fight off stiff
opposition to win his re-election bid.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is
currently ahead of the pack after tallying results from 18 local government
areas (LGAs).
Makinde is contesting against Teslim Folarin of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party.
So far, Makinde has 281,383 votes while Folarin has polled
128,972 and Adelabu has secured 21,899 votes.
There are 33 LGAs in the south-west state.
The announcement of the results is taking place at the state
collation centre in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo.
The exercise, which is presently on recess, is expected to
resume by 12:30pm.
