Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district,
Ibrahim Shekarau has insisted that he will not accept the New Nigeria Peoples
Party, NNPP, Senatorial seat.
The former governor was reacting to his declaration as winner
of Kano Central Senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples
Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission after the February 25
presidential and parliamentary elections.
The former governor of Kano State who didn’t show up to
receive the Certificate of Return issued to Senators-elect at the International
Conference Centre, Abuja on Tuesday further clarifies that he has since left
the NNPP.
His Media aide, Sule Y. Sule made the clarification to
journalists on Wednesday that his principal wouldn’t collect the Certificate of
Return.
“We have already made our position clear on the issue.
Senator Shekarau is not interested and will not collect the certificate of
return. As a matter of principles and personal conviction”, Sule said.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC declared the former governor winner of the Senatorial election under the
NNPP, following the February 25 by the Returning Officer in Kano.
