A fire outbreak has been reported in a five-storey building
in Balogun market, Lagos state.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the
fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, affected the “topmost floor” of the
building.
The fire service said mitigation efforts are underway to
limit the spread.
It is understood that the fire affected the section of the
building where traders sell shoes.
Adeseye Margaret, director, Lagos State Fire & Rescue
Service, said the inferno is under control as firefighters have been mobilised
to the area.
The fire truck of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) is also
assisting in efforts to quench the inferno.
The incident is the second market fire in the state in the
last few weeks.
Prior to the governorship election, a fire destroyed some
shops at the Akere auto parts market in the Olodi Apapa area of the state.
In January, a five-storey building at Gbajumo street, also
in Balogun market, was razed by fire.
