Aisha Binani, candidate of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) in Adamawa, says her victory in the governorship election would be for
all Nigerian women and girls.
Speaking during a programme on Channels TV on Friday, Binani
asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the
results of the governorship election in some LGAs in Adamawa.
The electoral commission had declared the state’s
governorship election inconclusive over alleged irregularities.
Before the declaration, Ahmadu Fintiri, the incumbent
governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had won 13 LGAs
while Binani secured seven.
Binani accused the governor and the PDP of using violence to
manipulate the election, alleging that INEC ad-hoc staff were not present in
some polling centres.
The governorship candidate said she is not afraid of running
against the incumbent governor in a supplementary election.
“I am never afraid but all I am asking is that the INEC
should conduct a review of the said LGAs so that it will bring out the real
figures for all the candidates,” she added.
“That is just all I
am asking and as soon as that is done, we would be home and dry and then we
will be confident to go back to the field. That is just all I am asking.”
Commenting on the possibility of becoming the first elected
female governor, she said: “I am not doing this for myself, I am doing this for
every girl child in this country. It is for all the women in Nigeria.”
The electoral body is yet to fix a date for the rerun
election in the state.
