Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has pledged the commitment of his administration to be transparent, accountable and responsive to citizens in handling the 2023 budget of the state.
Bello said this at a town hall interactive meeting organized by the Niger State Planning Commission and Niger State House Of Assembly Commission Planning and Appropriation on the 2023 budget in Minna.
He stated that zonal consultation with relevant stakeholders from the 25 LGs was held, where their needs were noted and documented to ensure accountability for necessary action.
The governor who spoke through his Deputy Ahmed Mohammed Ketso said budget consultation and town hall meetings in Niger State have come to stay.
“This is in view of the benefits derived from obtaining inputs from the public for budget preparation and presentation in line with the accountability posture of the state government”.
Bello explained that the town hall meeting has provided a platform for an all-inclusive and participatory democracy where Nigerlites are carried along in decision-making for maximum benefit.
The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane in his speech tasked Civil Society Organisations CSOs to participate actively in monitoring and tracking of 2023 budget of the state government to make it more responsive to the yearnings of its people.
The state Commissioner Planning Commission Zakari Abubakar in his address gave an overview of the 2023 proposed budget of N238.9b, saying a total of 66 major projects spread across 25 local government councils are to be executed in the balanced budget to improve the lives of residents.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary Planning Commission, Hajiya Ramatu Umar described the town hall meeting on the 2023 budget as the first of its kind in the state while urging Nigerlites to contribute positively to ensure its success.
