Pele was youngest World cup winner – Joe Biden mourns



The United States President, Joe Biden had expressed shock over the demise of Brazilian football icon Pele.


The footballer, who is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, died on Thursday at the age of 82.


Several soccer lovers across the world have continued to mourn the legend who was a three-time World Cup winner and the best player during his career.


Reacting, Biden in a post on his Facebook page, said before the emergence of the contemporary world best players, including Messi and Ronaldo, Pelé had broken several records.


He wrote, “Before there was Messi, Ronaldo there was Pelé. In 1958, Pelé won his first World Cup for Brazil at seventeen – the youngest winner ever.


“He went on to win another two World Cups in 1962 and 1970, making him the only player in the world today with three World Cup trophies.


“For a sport that brings the world together like no other, Pelé’s rise from humble beginnings to soccer legend is a story of what is possible”.


The US president further extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, saying his thoughts are with them.


The deceased, who was Born in October 1940, played his first game for Santos in 1956 when he was just a 15-year-old boy.
