FUT Minna can only houses 3,304 of its over 26,000 students – VC laments

The new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta has lamented that despite 40 years of inception, the institution can only accommodate 3,304 of its 26,000 students.

Kuta stated this while presenting his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office as the 8th substantive VC at the Dr. Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square, in Minna

He explained that lack of hostel accommodation is a major challenge which requires urgent solutions given the security and social challenges associated with the vast majority of its students living off campus.

The VC appealed to alumni friends and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the institution through Public Private Partnership, PPP, arrangement to provide hostel accommodation for the students to ease their hardship.

He also pledged to redouble efforts at improving the revenue drive by blocking all leakages and wastages to augment whatever comes from the Federal Government for maximum benefit.

In his speech, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council FUT Minna, Prof Olu Obafemi disclosed that the emergence of Prof. Kuta was a by-product of a meticulous selection process carried out by the Council under his leadership.

Earlier, the outgoing Professor Abdullahi Bala assured the University and the new VC of his continued support while expressing joy at the decision of FUT’s Governing Council for picking his successor from within the institution.

He then thanked the FUT management, staff and students for all the support given to him as VC of the university.
