Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, says Katsina state
was developed during the administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP presidential candidate spoke on Tuesday at a rally
in Katsina.
The late Musa Yar’Adua was the governor of Katsina from 1999
to 2007 on the platform of the PDP before he was elected as president.
Ibrahim Shema succeeded Yar’Adua as governor on the platform
of the PDP after which he handed over to the incumbent governor, Aminu Masari
of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2015.
Abubakar said every public institution, including the
government house in Katsina, was built when the PDP was in power.
“What I want to testify to you all this time is that if you
all observe, every development recorded in Katsina today was achieved by the
PDP administration,” he said.
“Is that not so? This particular place was constructed by
PDP even the roads were built by the PDP.
All the institutions and places of recreation — there is nothing that
PDP did not do in Katsina.
“Therefore, the time
of change/ transformation has come. Leave the other parties and come to PDP.”
The former vice-president said if elected, he will tackle
banditry which has affected the people of the state.
“We have made a promise — it is among the five things that I
vowed to do in Allah’s will and if you vote for me,” he said.
“The issue of insecurity will be eliminated and peace will be restored. We promise to stabilise the country’s economy and open all Nigerian borders.
“I am grateful to you all for this support and we are
hopeful that you will all vote for PDP during the forthcoming election.”
