Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers has revealed the reason behind his decision to axe Wilfred Ndidi from his starting lineup in recent outings.
Ndidi has been a regular starter since his arrival at the King Power Stadium from Belgian Pro League champions, KRC Genk in January 2017.
The midfielder struggled with injuries last season and has also missed a couple of games this term after spending time in the treatment room.
The Nigeria international has started the Foxes last three games on the bench and Rodgers has admitted that Ndidi was dropped owing to fitness issues.
“We’ve got a really busy schedule in January,” Rodgers told reporters.
“I had a good sit-down with him and a really honest conversation and he knows what he’s been at in terms of the level when I first came in here for a couple of years.
“He has struggled with a number of injuries but it’s just a case of sometimes coming away from the team and working on the training field and just resetting everything,” he said.
Rodgers, however, stated that Ndidi is working hard in training and will get his chance soon.
“I can see that in training that has allowed him to have that freshness back in his game so there’s no doubt over the coming weeks he will be ready to start,” he added.
Ndidi has started seven games in the Premier League for Leicester City this season.
