Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has condemned the
killing of Barrister Bolanle Raheem in the Ajah area of the state.
Recall that an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, on
Christmas day, opened fire on the unarmed lawyer while she was returning home.
It was learnt that the officer who was attached to the Ajah
Police Station and his team were making efforts to stop Raheem and her family
members as they drove back home from a Christmas day church service.
The victim, according to reports, was shot when her car
tried to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge. She was rushed to a hospital
where she was later confirmed dead.
The development has been generating reactions across the
country as many Nigerians tackle the police for alleged incessant extrajudicial
killings.
Reacting, Governor Sanwo-Olu in a tweet on his official
Twitter handle, revealed that the suspect had already been arrested and
detained, vowing that the victim will get justice.
He wrote: “With utter shock and sadness, I received the news
of the unfortunate and avoidable death of Barrister Bolanle Raheem at the hands
of a police officer at Ajiwe. My condolence to her family, friends and
associates. I can assure you that justice will be served.
“The Lagos State police command have arrested, disarmed and
detained the officer(s) involved in the incident. Nothing will be spared under
the Laws of Lagos State until justice is served speedily and adequately.”
