Moyosore Onigbanjo, Lagos state attorney-general, has filed
a one-count charge of unlawful killing against Drambi Vandi, an assistant
superintendent of police, for the murder of Bolanle Raheem.
The charge was filed at the magistrate’s court sitting in
Yaba, Lagos on Friday.
ASP Vandi was brought before Adeola Olatunbosun, the chief
magistrate, who remanded him in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
“That you ASP DRAMBI VANDI (M) on the 25th day of December
2022 at Ajah Round About along Lekki-Epe Express Way, Lagos within the Lagos
State Magisterial District unlawfully killed one OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM (F) by
shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law
Ch. C17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge sheet reads.
BACKGROUND
Raheem was, on Sunday, shot dead when she was returning home
from a Christmas outing with her family.
The shooting incident occurred at the Ajah axis of Lagos.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism, while Vandi,
the officer at the centre of the shooting, has been suspended and is currently
in detention.
VANDI REMANDED
PENDING LEGAL ADVICE
During the court proceeding, Onigbanjo sought a remand order
for the defendant in line with section 246 of the Administration Criminal
Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.
The attorney-general argued that the remand order will give
police the opportunity to conclude its investigation on the matter.
Olatunbosun granted the application and ordered that the
case file be duplicated and sent to Babajide Martins, director of public
prosecution in Lagos, for legal advice.
The case was thereafter adjourned to January 30, 2023.
