Belgium defender, Jan Vertonghen, has hit back at teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard after their World Cup 2-0 loss to Morocco on Sunday.
Belgium defeated Morocco thanks to goals from Romain Saiss and Zakaria Aboukhlal.
Ahead of the clash, De Bruyne surprisingly claimed that Belgium’s golden generation is now too old to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, while Hazard insisted that Belgium’s defenders are not the fastest.
However, speaking at his post-match press conference after Belgium’s defeat to Morocco, Vertonghen shot back at his team’s attacking unit for creating too few chances, adding that they attack badly because they are also too old.
“I guess we attack badly because we’re also too old upfront. We didn’t create enough chances. We conceded the same goal twice at the near post,” Vertonghen said.
“It is very frustrating and things are not going the way we want at present, but we’ve the weapons to move and get something from the third game [against Croatia].”
