The United States Mission has expanded the eligibility
period for nonimmigrant visa renewals from 24 to 48 months.
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Mission announced the
extension on Wednesday.
The information was issued 48 hours after the Mission
commenced no-interview student visa renewals for Nigerian students.
A statement on Friday said applicants whose visa expired in
the last 48 months or will expire in the next three months qualify for
non-appearance at the embassy.
Thousands of visa renewal appointments will be opened to
assist applicants who wish to renew their visas, it hinted.
Those eligible must have applied for a B1/B2, F, M, J
(academic only), H, L or C1/D (combined only) visa.
The criteria: previous visa issued in Nigeria; previous visa
in the same classification as current application; previous visa a full
validity, multiple entry visas.
Others: previous visas expired within the last 48 months or
will expire three months from the application date; applicants have passports
covering the entire period since receiving the previous and most recent visa.
Also, applicants must have never been arrested or convicted
in America; such persons have never worked without authorization or remained
beyond permitted time in the U.S.
