England have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener against Iran on November 21.
The Three Lions will be without Chelsea left-back, Ben Chilwell, when the tournament kicks off later this month due to injury.
Chelsea disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the former Leicester City star will miss the World Cup in Qatar after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Chilwell had picked up the injury during Chelsea’s Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek.
“Results show that Ben has suffered a significant [hamstring] injury and the defender is unfortunately expected to miss the World Cup,” Chelsea’s statement read in part.
“Ben will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department.”
England in Group B of the 2022 World Cup will face Iran, USA and Wales.
