Presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) Atiku Abubakar has described the crisis rocking the party as family
quarrel.
The former vice president made the assertion on Friday after
a closed door meeting with the former military president Ibrahim Babangida at
his uphill home in Niger State.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Atiku expressed
optimism that the crisis rocking the party will be resolved before the February
election.
He said, “We have always engaged the five governors and we
will continue to engage them. This is a family quarrel and we believe that we
will resolve it before the elections and you will see a very, very united and
strong PDP that will face the elections.”
Recall that five Governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers,
Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu and
Seyi Makinde of Oyo State fell out with Atiku after the party’s primary
election.
The governors had demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to zone the position to the south following Atiku’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer.
