British broadcaster, Piers Morgan, has claimed Manchester
United’s Cristiano Ronaldo contacted him about doing the controversial
interview, in which he claimed he felt “betrayed” by Manchester United.
According to Morgan, Ronaldo wanted the interview to focus
on his damaged relationship with manager Erik ten Hag and the Premier League
club.
He also revealed the 37-year-old wanted it to come out
before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Cristiano asked me to do it. Simple as that. I didn’t ask
him, he asked me. He’s been thinking about this for a while.
“He feels he has to speak out, he knows it will be
incendiary, will rattle some changes, but he also feels he should be doing
this. He knows people will criticise him but he also knows what he is saying is
true.
“Sometimes the truth hurts. He’s been thinking about this
for a while and I got a call,” Morgan told talkSPORT.
Ronaldo’s current deal at Old Trafford runs out in June
2023.
Although United have the option of extending it for another
year, it is widely expected the former Real Madrid and Juventus star has played
his last game for the club.
