President Muhammadu Buhari has called for an investigation
into the murder of Ignitus Asor, the traditional ruler of Obudi-Agwa community
in Oguta LGA, Imo state.
On Monday, gunmen invaded the traditional ruler’s palace and
opened fire on him and four other persons during a meeting.
Asor, two palace chiefs and two other members of the
community were said to have died on the spot.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s
spokesperson, the president condemned the murder of the traditional ruler and
others, while commiserating with the family of the bereaved.
“The president
directs security agencies in the state to thoroughly investigate the dastardly
act and ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,” the
statement reads.
“While commiserating with family, friends, the Obudi-Agwa
community, as well as all those affected by the attacks, the president prays
for the speedy recovery of those injured.
“President Buhari acknowledges the spirited efforts by the
Imo state government at improving the security situation and encourages all Imo
residents and citizens to robustly support the collective efforts of state
actors and members of the local community to keep everyone safe.”

youths while on patrol at Izombe community, Oguta LGA.
