Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC),
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the 2011 gubernatorial candidate of the defunct
Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Lagos State, Ambassador Abayomi Nurain
Mumuni as a member of his campaign’s intelligence and security team.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter addressed to Mumuni
and signed by the Secretary, PCC, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.
It was gathered that the team which has prominent
security experts as members is an arm of Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign
Council (PCC) for the 2023 general elections.
Other members of the team included retired military chiefs,
General Jubril Abdulmalik and General Abayomi Olorunisakin who are to co-head
the team and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Burutai (retd) and Mr.
Sadiq Garba both as deputy directors.
The letter addressed to Mumuni, a chieftain of APC in Lagos
State reads: “On behalf of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), I
humbly wish to inform you of your nomination to serve as a member of
intelligence and security. Your nomination to serve is a clarion call to
national duty.”
Mumuni in a statement made available on Friday through his
media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, described his appointment as a call to service.
He said that he was impressed that the APC candidate has
assembled people of substance across the country to work with him.
He said: “Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni received the news of his appointment with gratitude to Asiwaju Tinubu and the APC. Tinubu has carved a niche for himself as a leader who knows how to assemble people of substance across the country to work with him, assigning portfolios to them based on their competence”.
