Rivers State Government has banned the use of premises,
buildings and structures in residential areas in urban and non-urban areas as
campaign offices by political parties.
The government said any political party that wishes to use
structures in residential areas as campaign office must seek permission from
the Rivers State Ministry of Planning and Urban Development.
The ban was contained in Executive Order 22 signed by
Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Rivers
State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chris Finebone,
Executive Order 22 took effect on Nov. 11, 2022.
The commissioner quoted the governor as frowning at the
defacement of expensive public properties in Port Harcourt and the
indiscriminate posting of handbills, banners and all sorts of unauthorized
materials.
The executive order also prohibits the posting of bills or
posters or any other material in unauthorized places.
