Zamfara: Sheikh Jangebe urges politicians to de-escalate tension

Zamfara State commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Sani Tukur Jangebe has urged the 18 registered political parties and their candidates to obey the stipulated rules in order to promote peace as campaigns kick-off.

The commissioner, who also doubles as the Chief Imam of Muslim Foundation Jummu’at mosque in Gusau, the State capital, charged the aspirants to avoid derogatory and inflammatory remarks capable of causing trouble and creating tension.

Sheikh Jangebe pointed out that politics should not be a do or die affair, advising that politicians should always ensure that public interests are prioritized to override their personal interest and desires.

He stated this in his recent Congregational sermon, saying politics should be an interesting game since voters remain the decisive gurus in every election.

“Playing free, fair and rancour-free politics during the electioneering campaigns will encourage the electorates to exercise their civil right of electing eligible leaders of their choice.

“Politics of bitterness, oppression and intimidation had led to voter apathy in the democratic system,” he said.

He said that he and other clerics would continue to preach and pray for peaceful co-existence in every part of Nigeria.
