Prayer consultant dupes accountant N277,000 in Adamawa

A man, Kefas Brandford, has been docked for collecting money from an accountant on the pretext of linking the accountant with a native doctor for purpose of making the accountant successful.

Brandford swindled the accountant of money in several instalments over a period of time totalling N277,000, at which point the accountant, Suleiman Ibrahim, learnt that he was being taken for a ride and moved against Brandford.

Brandford who is of Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State did the phoney transactions on phone with Suleiman Ibrahim who is an accountant with the Yobe State Ministry of Finance.

Our correspondent gathered Thursday, that Brandford promised to link Ibrahim with the native doctor based in Ganye, in the southern part of Adamawa, who will pray to turn Ibrahim’s fortunes around within a short time.

Specifically, Ibrahim was to gain easy promotion in his place of work and become wealthy.

Encouraged by such prospects, Ibrahim kept paying money into Brandford’s bank account to buy chickens and rams for sacrifices, among other things that Brandford demanded.

Ibrahim who had never met Brandford physically, took steps for such a meeting when he travelled to Adamawa State in August this year but it took him until over the week when he was able to get Brandford arrested.

He had upon arriving in Adamawa in August asked Brandford on phone to take him to the native doctor because he could not see any positive change in his life.

Brandford who has now been arraigned before a court of law told Ibrahim that the native doctor had been sent on an errand by the Gangwari Ganye and could not be reached.

Ibrahim who had lodged at a hotel, mobilised the police in Ganye and apprehended Ibrahim and had him arraigned before the Jimeta Area Court I in Yola, on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

After Ibrahim pleaded guilty to the charge against him, the court, presided over by Mathias Nuhu, ordered that he be remanded at a correctional centre, and adjourned the case to next week, October 10.
