Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River, and his Ebonyi
counterpart, David Umahi, met with Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, on
Wednesday evening.
Ayade and Umahi are members of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) while Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting, which was held in Port Harcourt, the capital of
Rivers, also had Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia, in attendance.
Although the meeting’s agenda has not been made public, it is not unrelated to the horsetrading ahead of the 2023 general election.
Umahi and Ayade were elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019
on the platform of the PDP. They both dumped the PDP in 2020 and 2021
respectively.
Ikpeazu, who is an ally of Wike, is among the PDP members
demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the
party.
